Apologies for the lack of posting. Dissertation writing and job hunting are taking up pretty much all my free time these days.
Just got back from the AAR/SBL annual meeting in San Diego where my circa 100 hours of application time was rewarded with a single, fifteen minute meeting with a nice, east coast big city school. I did my best...we'll see if it was enough.
Walking out of my interview, I was behind a guy straight out of central casting. Shoulder length grey hair, corduroy jacket with leather elbow patches, the works. He's jabbering away into his bluetooth earpiece and I'm catching snippets of his conversation.
(mumble, mumble)...avatar...(mumble)...level 4...
...sephirah...(mumble, mumble)...tikkun...
Near as I could tell, he was talking about making a video game based on kabbalistic cosmology. I was torn between being angry that I hadn't thought of that first and being shocked that there is, quite evidently nothing in the world that Americans cannot commodify.

Hi Ed,
Catching up with your blog while writing a paper comparing the Bronze Age site of Myrtou Pighades on Cyprus with Mt. Gerizim Pesach today. I have certainly had interview and grant writing experiences that mirror your own in terms of time spent v. results.
